Anoushka Shankar Anoushka Shankar, an Indian-born British American artist and a sitarist, is well known for her songs. She won the British House of Commons' Shield in the year of her youngest and first female recipient. Alongside receiving nine Grammy nominations and nine Grammy nominations, she also became the first Indian-born musician to present at and perform in the live ceremony. Anoushka shankar is one of India's rising stars in the sitar. She is the child of Ravi Shankar and a former student. She spent her childhood bouncing back and forth from London to New Delhi. Her debut concert was in New Delhi at the tender age of thirteen. Then she relocated in Encinitas CA where she graduated from High School with honours in 1999. Anouskha continues to have a bright music and acting career, despite being young. She has been performing with her father on stage for several years. She released her debut solo album Anourag in 1998. The Grammy-nominated Live at Carnegie Hall album was released in 2002. Because she has performed on all the major stages in the world, her stage career has been expansive. Anoushka Shakar's career isn't just limited to music. In 2002 she published the book Bapi The Love of My Live this is a pictorial biography which gives a special honor to her late father Ravi Shankar. The year 2003 saw her starred on Dance Like a Man as a Bharat Natyam artist. Anoushka Shakar's professional career will continue to grow and grow. From the age of nine she began her studies in music under her father making her performing debut on the sitar 4 years later at his birthday party in Delhi. As a part of her dad's band as his world tour, Anoushka racked up a wealth of performances in Carnegie Hall while still in her teens, performing in Peter Gabriel's WOMAD festival, and also performing with George Harrison. To honor her position as a leading musician of Asian Arts, she was awarded the House of Commons Shield by British Parliament.
